E-911 & Emergency Management Agency

Robert Goza Director, E-911 & EMA Monroe County Airport Aberdeen, MS 39730 662-369-3683 Monroe County E-911 dispatches calls to all municipal and volunteer fire departments, municipal police departments, county sheriff's office and ambulance services. The Emergency Management Agency provides assistance in every type of disaster situation (see reference to comprehensive plan below. The director is the chief operating officer in such emergencies and the agency serves as the link between local government and MEMA (Mississippi Emergency Management Agency). |
Monroe County E-911 maintains three trunk lines to handle emergency calls from throughout the county. Each month, some 1,500 to 1,700 calls are received and units dispatched from the thirteen volunteer and two municipal fire departments in the county, the Monroe County Sheriff's office and all four municipal police departments as well as two ambulance services. |

| ● | The Monroe County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) writes grants for E-911 and emergency management. In calendar 2004 alone, over $417,000 in grants was obtained. |
| ● | In 2004, EMA provided storm shelters for 53 low income Monroe County families, financed totally by state and federal grants. |
| ● | Sixteen volunteer make up dive teams which are available in certain emergency situations, such as searches for bodies. |
| ● | EMA maintains a comprehensive (disaster) plan for the county, which is updated at six-month intervals. It addresses natural disasters, chemical spills and other industrial accidents, and provides evacuation plans and information about designated public shelters. |
